You can find everything you need and more in Quesnel. We have many unique, locally-owned shops and national retail chains. We encourage you to contact businesses for current shopping hours and services available.
Love Quesnel
Love Quesnel is part of a large shop local movement called Love Northern BC. Started right here in Quesnel by entrepreneur Amy Quarry of Small Town Love, the program has spread to 34 communities and counting! It was founded to shed light on the incredible impact that small businesses in Northern BC have on their communities, by sharing their stories with the world and encouraging everyone to shop local!
Quesnel Farmers' Market
From May to October, the Farmers’ Market is the place to go Saturday mornings. Here you can find everything from fresh locally grown produce, artisan crafts, desserts, food trucks and more! The market is open from 8:30 am to 1:00pm every Saturday on the Helen Dixon Grounds on the corner of Kinchant Street and Carson Avenue. See the Quesnel Farmers’ Market website for specific dates, events and vendor information. There is often live entertainment and music!
Business Associations
Quesnel has three vibrant shopping districts, Downtown, South Quesnel and West Village.
Downtown Quesnel
We have some well-known chain stores in our downtown, but our real charm is the specialty stores - the smaller retail outlets that are locally owned and operated and offer up unique finds. With over 180 businesses in the downtown district, you’re spoiled for choice. Walk down our newly revitalized Reid St and enjoy a coffee or tea on one of the benches or seating areas. The one-way traffic offers vehicles and bikers access to share the street.
Downtown Quesnel is the place to find the financial services (banks/credit union), professional medical clinics, automobile sales, and service dealerships, insurance agencies, Canada Post, one of our grocery stores, restaurants, and most importantly, retail shops! An electric charge (EV) station is located in the Billy Barker Casino Hotel parking lot.
Spirit Square is a community meeting place in the downtown core with a covered stage, clock tower, colourful public piano, and accessible public washrooms. Many gatherings and community events take place here during the different seasons, bringing our community together.
South Quesnel
Located at the ‘top of the hill,' South Quesnel’s shopping area starts from the top of Dragon Lake Hill through to the edge of our city boundary driving south on Highway 97. The slogan “Shop at the Top” represents approximately 65 businesses, property owners, and tenants and attracts hundreds of employees, tourists, and shoppers.
You'll find most of the big box stores in South Quesnel, along with grocery stores, gas stations, electric charge (EV) station, located by Extra Foods, hunting supplies, electronics, recreational vehicles, hotels, motels, pet store, fast food chains, and some great restaurants. A great area to stock up, whether you're just arriving into town, or heading out to the lake.
West Village
Drive across the Moffat Bridge, or walk across the Fraser River Footbridge to check out the West Village. Here, you'll find several small businesses offering retail and services as well as West Park Mall (be sure to check out the life-sized chessboard!). With the skateboard park, Riverfront Trail, running track, soccer fields, and Indoor Sports Complex nearby, you'll quickly work up an appetite for a snack at one of the great independently owned restaurants.
