The 32nd historic Gold Rush Trail Sled Dog Mail Run is scheduled for February 9 to 11th. Beginning Friday at Troll Resort with the swearing-in of all Mail Carriers and distribution of mail bags. The banquet and Auction will be at 6 pm. Show your support for the dogs and the mushers on Saturday at the Jack O' Clubs in Wells. Musher sports will begin at 3:00 pm with an informal Social for Mushers and Volunteers. Sunday is the Barkerville Dash. Mushers will leave the Jack O' Clubs parking lot and complete a trail ending at the Barkerville Post Office. The final event is the Wind-Up Awards at the Jack O' Clubs pub.
The Gold Rush Trail Sled Dog Mail Run is living history for the past 32 years. Our dedicated mushers and their dog teams will again be sworn in as official mail carriers and will carry Canada Post mail in their dog sleds over the Gold Rush Trail to Barkerville.
Please support this special year that commemorates Kim Verge by purchasing unique Mail Run envelopes that are sold from this website or at local outlets, stamped “Carried by Dog Team” and hand cancelled by volunteers in Quesnel, Wells and Barkerville, the three post offices along the route. Once delivered to Barkerville, this mail enters the regular mail system for delivery anywhere in the world.
The artwork on the 2024 envelope is an image in memory of Kim Verge, edited using both an image of Kim and a photo she took of one of her dogs. Kim was a vital part of the Mail Run for many years both as a participant and a volunteer. Kim demonstrated all of the best traits of mushing: toughness, energy, compassion, patience, strength, and community. Kim was always found helping others and encouraging new mushers. She cared fiercely about the dogs and their top-notch care. The mushing world can carry these lessons forward from Kim: to always prioritize the people and the animals over speed or accomplishments, to take those who are learning under your wing, and to always seek out fun.
